Yene Fanta Scholarship Project

Yene Fanta Scholarship Project invites Mekane Selam Medhane Alem Cathedral members to participate in our 3nd Annual Scholarship drive. The contest will will be administered by the prestigious WORLD YOUTH FOUNDATION INC (WYF).

The scholarships are given in memory of our beloved mother, Sister Fantaye Ashagre. A big part of any good you see in our lives was derived from our mother’s love for us and her faith in God. She instilled so much good in us and we never knew how and when to thank her before she suddenly departed from us. She taught us how to be independent and still remain connected to the bigger family and social responsibilities. We saw our mother wear many hats successfully and gracefully, and now in honor and respect for her, we promise her to do our best to carry her legacy by starting this Scholarship program which we hope will grow in the coming years.

Yene Fanta Scholarship fund will again award three scholarships in the amounts of $2,200, $2,100 and $2,000. These scholarships will be awarded to Ethiopian / Ethiopian-American seniors from a US public high school demonstrating scholastic achievement, leadership skills, and community involvement. Applicants must have an overall minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and plan to attend a 4 year college or university in 2016. Applicants must complete an online application and submit a typed 500-750 word double-spaced essay. This scholarship contest is a wonderful opportunity for college bound seniors to help fund their educational goals.

Applicants should submit completed applications through the World Youth Foundation, Inc. website by Friday August 5, 2016: http://www.worldyouthfoundation.org/forms

We expect the 1st place winner to read his/her essay at an event to be determined later. WYF will pay the awards upon receipt of a letter of acceptance from their college or university.

Please email any questions you might have to YeneFanta@gmail.com.
